“Excellent website if I do say so myself. These guys will get tons of press but they only just opened. Check back here in a week or two and watch the good times roll"
EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED... IN A SALON

Miss Gertrude appreciates her community and the creativity that surrounds her.
Miss Gertrude is located right in the heart of Gertrude Street’s creative bustle, with a side entrance ensuring a discreet experience, making the salon one of Melbourne’s best hidden secrets.
Miss Gertrude is edgy and elegant, directional and discerning.
And with equal commitment to contemporary fashion and sustainability, Miss Gertrude is a very modern hair salon.
A passionate cook, gardening aficionado and travel junkie, Scottish-born Leanne has spent the past 15 years in Melbourne, building a loyal clientele. Clients just can’t give up her natural, subtle colour work and elegant, flattering, low-maintenance cuts that work so perfectly with their face shape and hair texture. It’s a knack honed over 19 years in the industry – which means she’s adept at classic work and strong, directional shapes too.
Trained with London’s Vidal Sassoon, Kristy has worked everywhere from Berlin to Brunswick. Clean, fluent, precise cuts and a visionary creative eye mean she leads the salon’s creative direction. And at home? It’s all about Bauhaus architecture, gigs and science fiction.
With ten years under her belt as a director of one of New Zealand’s most respected salons, our new import Kate has a beautiful fashion eye.
She’s worked on campaigns and shows for everyone from Karen Walker to Lonely Hearts, as well as teaching the art of hair in the US.
When she’s not in the salon, you’re most likely to find her in her garden, wine in hand, her cat Dudley by her side – musing over references for an upcoming editorial shoot – film, music, her idol Debbie Harry all play a part in her style!
Corey is what we call a 'colour geek'. He loves all things colour, particularly creating amazing highlights. Melbourne born and raised, and trained in a prestigious Melbourne salon. When not in the salon he can be found singing, dancing or just relaxing with a glass of wine and listening to jazz.
Born and trained in Melbourne, Faith has spent the past 19 years working all over the world. A fashion week regular from London to Melbourne, she also sidelines as a fashion stylist. Her specialty however, is colour – beautiful, subtle colour. And when Faith’s not styling and snipping, she’s spending time with her twin toddlers – or indulging in her other passion, travel.
Turning from graphic design to hairdressing came naturally for Carmen three years ago. The New Zealand-born stylist adores short hair – especially the ever-popular men’s barber style cuts, which appeal to her graphic sensibilities and precise eye. Carmen is also obsessed with her fur baby, new puppy Suki.
Arriving in Melbourne by way of Osaka, Japan, Eri is a deeply experienced stylist and colourist. With a yen for simplicity, natural looks and low maintenance styles that work seamlessly with her client’s personal style, she is skilled at strong, sharp styles too.
Simple, minimal designs fill her home and she’s a brilliant cook – Japanese food is her favourite, of course.
Senior stylist, colourist, hair up wiz, and all round excellent gal. Born in the bush but really a city girl Grace began her hairy training 10yrs ago at ‘Shibui’ before heading off to the U.K. to see what all the fuss was about. Her style is relaxed and intuitive, believing hair should be low-fuss and easy to maintain. Still, with a touch of glamour. She’s spent time on campaigns and runways assisting local Melbourne designers as well as internationals here in New Zealand and London. When not in the salon she’s found styling interior shoots or tinkering away at her budding Interior design business.
Jens has been working as a hairdresser for more than 25 years. He began his career in Germany, where he trained with Vidal Sassoon. Since then he has worked all over the world, honing his expertise. His particular talents lie in colour work – but he’s also rather partial to “eating apples, reading books and a little peace and quiet”.
Elle has been hairdressing for five years, including time spent throughout Europe, where she was able to refine her own distinct style. She was nominated & awarded National Finalist for Aveda Colour Harmony in 2010. Expanding from this, Elle spends time doing editorial hair & makeup and freelance fashion & when she’s not busy with all of that… she manages to fit in a television show called ‘bright things.tv’ where she is a presenter. Wow!!
The smiling Danielle you’ll meet at our front desk is a Melbourne girl, born and raised. She has managed clothing stores, cocktail bars and worked as a travel agent. She’s also nearly qualified as a nurse. Needless to say, she’s efficiency and service personified. When she’s not booking your appointment, she’s playing with her naughty puppy Alfie and travelling as much as she can.
Kim has been answering phones, smiling and talking to people his whole life. Which makes him the perfect welcome to Miss Gertrude. This well-travelled man is a music lover who’s moonlighted as a designer and organises a festival or two in his spare time.
Our young, up and coming team is the future of Miss Gertrude. We run a series of salon assistant programs for talented, promising people currently studying. Through a comprehensive education programme, they’re constantly upskilling and working towards their dream of becoming a stylist.
With the same care, vision and passion as the herbalists of Renaissance times, combining science and tradition with the essence of Mediterranean herbs, flowers and fruit… We bring you Davines.
